You might be familiar with this skit. If you had been with us last Christmas, you would have seen our rendition of the production. But with no dialogue during the entire skit, what is it really talking about? We give you a close interpretation to this little classic.
Lifehouse “Everything” Skit
In the skit, God blows life in to a girl. She receives life and is amazed by everything He creates and shows her. But sin seperates them, dragging the girl further and further away from God.
Love/Relationships: It diverts the girl’s attention. Representing the first distraction that draws us away from God.
Greed/Materialism: It taunts the girl, beckoning her but always remaining out of reach. The second veil that blinds us from God.
Drunkenness/Debauchery: It inebriates the girl, causing her to lose her sense of direction. The third glass that blocks out God’s presence.
Vanity/Self-Consciousness: It makes the girl get carried away worrying about how she looks. The forth mask that screens out God’s call for us.
Self-Mutilation/Negativity: It leads the girl to question her life’s value, urging her to harm and eventually kill herself. The final haze that cloaks us from God’s love.
The girl debates whether she should kill herself. All of a sudden, she runs back to God. However, all the things that carried her away-relationships, greed, drunkenness, vanity, and negativity, push her back and beat her down. God throws an invisible rope around her and tugs her to him while the girl fights all the evils to get to God. This shows the desperate battle of that believers face to get back to God. Then God holds all the temptations back and the girl stands, with her black shirt off and revealing the white shirt that was underneath, symbolizing purity. God finally defeated the temptations for her and they walk away, together again.
